A bit about me
I am just a girl who loves plants. Over the past 10 years, my interest in plants became a passion. I recently graduated with a Horticulture degree and a Sustainable Agriculture certificate. As life does, it has opened doors and led me toward where I am today. For years I have been growing plants from seed and I love it. Growing plants from seeds allows you to have a wide variety, often unique, and witness the entire growth cycle. In addition, I have a deep appreciation for biodiversity, sustainability, and a desire to contribute positively to the environment. Native plants play a critical role in a healthy ecosystem but unfortunately, they are rather hard to find. Hopefully, I can help bring more natives and blooms to the community and joy to your garden!
There are many benefits to planting Native plants!
Planting native plants is crucial for maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity. Native plants have evolved to thrive in specific regions, supporting local wildlife by providing food and habitat. Unlike non-native species, they are adapted to their local environmental conditions (rainfall, climate, soil), therefore, they do not require pesticides, herbicides, fertilizer, or extra watering.
Many local wildlife species rely on native plants for food, nectar, and habitat. Pollinator populations are in decline due to a loss in feeding and nesting habitats, pollution, misuse of pesticides, and climate change.
🦋 1 out of every 3 bites of food we take is thanks to the pollinators!
🐦 To raise one family of baby birds requires 6,000 to 9,000 caterpillars! That is 350-570 every day!
Native plants have extensive root systems that help store water, manage and filter stormwater run-off, and prevent erosion. The deep root system improves soil health and soil structure while lessening the negative impacts of stormwater run-off before it enters waterways.
Once established, natives are low-maintenance to no-maintenance.
